Abstract
535,467. Inflating-valves. KIDDE & CO., Ltd., W., and PENN, O. S. March 9, 1940, No. 4463. [Class 135] An inflating valve particularly adapted for use on inflatable dinghies used by aeroplane crews has an elastic annular valve member engaging inner and outer seats and is adapted to serve both as inlet non-return valve and as an excess pressure-relief valve. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a shallow domed casing secured to the flexible wall of the container 7 by a ring 6 and screws has an inlet branch 9 to receive the end of the inflating hose 8 and an outer seat 2 for the valve member 5. The valve member has a central hole 5<SP>1</SP> and in use is held in a slightly dished condition by a plate 3 supported by a spindle 4 adjustably secured to the casing. The plate 3 has a lost motion connection with the spindle 4 so that then the container is deflated, which may be effected by the insertion of a wire through a hole in the casing normally closed by a screwed plug, the distortion of the valve member is relieved to prevent the valve member taking a set. In use the incoming air lifts the outer periphery of the valve from the seat 2 while excessive internal pressure lifts the inner edge from the plate 3 and so relieves such excessive pressure. In the form shown, the downward movement of the plate 3 is limited by an inturned part 3<SP>1</SP> engaging a head 6<SP>1</SP> in the spindle but the plate 6 may have a rib or spider to serve the same purpose.
