Abstract

250,719. India Rubber, Gutta Percha, & Telegraph Works Co., Ltd., and Spinks, W. G. Feb. 24, 1925. Diaphragms; magnetic instruments. -A loud-speaking telephone receiver is provided with a diaphragm comprising a flat plate of magnetic material to the centre of which is secured a weight of non-magnetic material, which is such that its attachment to the plate occupies a very small portion of the effective area of the plate. The attachment of the plate, which should not occupy more than one sixteen-hundredth part of the effective area of the plate, preferably occupies approximately one twenty-eight-hundredth part of this area. Figs. 1 and 3 show two forms of weights adapted to be secured to the centre of the plate A, the mushroom-shaped weight B of Fig. 1 having the reduced portion B<4> of its stem B<2> riveted to the plate, whilst the weight D of Fig. 3 is formed as a hollow cone with its apex D<1> riveted to the plate. Fig. 5 shows the diaphragm mounted in a loud-speaker. The plate A, which may be provided with slots in its periphery for securing it in position, is clamped between the horn-receiving member H and a ring G. A casing F for the electromagnets F<1> is screwed into the ring G and can be adjusted with respect to the diaphragm by a lever K projecting between the base E and cover plate J.
