Abstract
957,412. Valves. L. M. C. SEAMARK. Sept. 27, 1960 [Oct. 1, 1959], No. 33379/59. Heading F2V. A fluid-flow control valve comprises a rubber or like resilient sleeve 2, Fig. 6, having a bore of circular cross-section and a central outer surface 2a of hexagonal cross-section. The sleeve is mounted in a two-part housing and the upper and lower surfaces of the hexagonal surface are contacted by members 6 and 7, Fig. 2. The member 6 is connected to an operating spindle 8 through a left-hand screw thread 20 while the member 7 is connected through rods 25 to an upper member 22 mounted on the spindle by a right-handed screw thread 21 whereby the members 6 and 7 move towards or away from each other on rotation of the spindle. The members 6 and 7 are connected by links 17, 18, 19 which provide a full circumferential support for the sleeve during opening and closing of the valve. The outer corners of the sleeve may be nicked as at 27 and an annular metal inset 14 may be provided in the outer flanges of the sleeve.
