Abstract

874,037. Valves. KINEMATICS Ltd. July 2, 1959 [July 18, 1958], No. 23215/58. Class 135. A rotary cylindrical or conical plug cock comprises a plug 2 of smaller diameter than a bore 3 in the body, tubular spigots 21, 22 closely fitting the exterior of the plug and push or force fitted or brazed, sweated or screwed into counterbores 19, 20 in ducts 4, 5, sealing rings 24, 25 of rubber &c. stretched over the spigots and compressed slightly between the plug and the bore 3, and sealing rings 26, 27 encircling the plug at each end thereof. A collar 10 and a washer 13 fit closely within the.bore 3 and the plug is held against axial movement by flanges 11, 15 of which the latter is retained on a stem 12 by a handle 16. In a modification the upper flange 15 and the handle are formed together with the plug as a hot brass pressing and the lower flange is secured by set screws &c. The spigots 21, 22 may be formed integrally with the valve body and, in larger-size valves, screwed sockets 6, 7 may be replaced by flanges and the handle may engage a squared stem and be retained by a nut. Instead of a single, transverse passage 23 the plug may have a branched passage or more than one passage. When passages are formed in different planes a sealing ring encircling the plug may be provided between each passage.
