Abstract

1,194,244. Valves. MAENAKA VALVE WORKS CO. Ltd. 12 June, 1967 [13 June, 1966], No. 26954/67. Heading F2V. In a butterfly valve, the closure member carrying spindle has one of its ends projecting into a housing separate from, but lying adjacent to the valve housing, which end carries a bifurcated member 28 engageable with a sleeve 33 movable axially but non-rotatably along a shaft 31, the latter having a worm gear 31<SP>1</SP>, being operable manually by means of handle 32 and being disposed within the housing. The connection between members 28 and 33 is effected by providing a pin 34 on diametrically opposite sides of sleeve 33, which pins engage corresponding slots 29<SP>1</SP> provided in the arms of the bifurcated member, the sleeve being disposed between the two arms, and the pins also engaging grooves in the housing thereby restraining the sleeve from angular rotation. The extent of axial movement of the sleeve 33 along the shaft 31 is changeable by means of adjusting nuts 38 and 39 screwed on to the respective ends of sleeve 33. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown), the linkage between the closure member spindle and sleeve 33 is identical to the one above but the shaft 31 is itself movable longitudinally but non-rotatably by a piston (41) which is attached to one end of the shaft 31 and is movable within a cylinder to the opposite ends of which hydraulic pressure may be applied.
