Abstract

965,071. Valves. CRANE Ltd. June 14, 1963, No. 23770/63. Heading F2V. A valve closure member 6 is coupled to an operating stem 7 by pins 21, extending through radial holes 20 in the closure member wall 19, and into holes 18, each in one of a number of segmental members 14, forming a ring assembled between flanges 11 and 17 of a portion of the stem 7, within the closure member wall 19. The pins 21 are retained in position by a split ring 23 and are of an odd number to permit removal by a rod pushed through holes 40, 30 in line with the holes 20, 18, respectively containing the pins 18, upon alignment with a hole 10 through the stem 7. The closure member is seated by a hand wheel 31 rotation of the screw threaded stem 7 within a yoke 29 and lost motion, provided by a clearance between the segmental members 14 and stem flanges 11 and 17, permits a direct valve closing thrust by contact of stem button 9 upon the closure member surface 11. Leakage around the stem is prevented by a compressed gland 33. In an alternative embodiment (not shown) the split ring 23 is dispensed with and the diameter of the casing surface 35 is made substantially the same as the diameter of the wall 19, to retain the pins 21 in position.
