Abstract

A valve comprises a pack of centred, superimposed washershaped rings 23 ... 36 of rubber of varying hardness so arranged that the ring of least hardness is placed where the throat of the valve opening is situated while the hardest rings are placed farthest away, and means to adjust the valve opening by the application of axial pressure. The means consists of a socket 40 having handles 41 and a screwthreaded connection with a stationary seat 37, the rings being compressed between a metal ring 46 and a flange 45 mounted above a bearing 42. Pressure within the pack is kept constant by thin metal washers 47 while scales 48, 49 and a pointer 50 indicate the position of the socket 40. The opening formed by the rings may be Venturi-shaped or conical.
