Abstract

729,069. Manually-actuated valves. STUBBE, F. Nov. 13, 1952 [Nov. 21, 1951; May 17, 1952], No. 28676/52. Class 135. A shut-off valve comprises a cylindrical valve member 8, Fig. 2, of soft rubber &c. slidable with clearance in a recess 14 in a casing 1 having a through passage 7 controlled by the valve member. The valve member is integral with a diaphragm 12 segregating a screwthreaded operating spindle 5 from the controlled fluid and sealing the casing, and its diameter is greater than that of the passage 7. The arrangement is such that the valve member moves freely between its operating position and when in its fully closed position it is deformed transversely to sealingly close the passage 7. In a modification, the valve member 8, Fig. 4, is hollow and of rectangular crosssection, a metal insert 16 having clearance between it and the inner bottom surface of the valve member clamps the diaphragm 12 to a pressure plate 9a which, in this case, separates the diaphragm from the valve member. A bush 18 secured to the insert co-operates with a screw-threaded operating spindle 5a which, as before, has clearance between itself and the casing 1 in moving between its open and closed positions, but is deformed transversely on final closure of the valve.
