Abstract
826,852. Valves. PRIDEAUX, W. E., FOX, W. A., and BAILEY, D. Oct. 1, 1956 [Oct. 1, 1955; July 6, 1956], Nos. 27990/55 and 21046/56. Class 135. A fluid-control valve comprises a pair of valve seats 9 and 13 formed, respectively by the upper surface and inner surface of a seating member 6, accommodated in a dividing wall 4 of the valve casing 1, a first valve closure member 15 adapted to co-operate with the seat 9 and a second closure member 14 co-operating with the seat 13, the closure members being movably connected together such that when the first closure member 15 is moved away from its seat it first moves relatively to the second closure member 14 while allowing the latter to remain engaged with its seat to prevent the flow of fluld through the valve, whereafter the second closure member is moved progressively off its seat to allow the flow of fluid past the already open first closure member. The second closure member which is of a tapered or conical external form fits slidably within the first closure member and has a flange 25 which engages with a flange 22 of the first closure member to limit the relative movement between them. A central passage 27 is formed in the second closure member 14 permitting inlet pressure to pass into the chamber 26 and act on the upper surfaces of the second closure member to tend to press it downwards in relation to the first closure member. A spiral spring 29 acting in the same sense as the inlet pressure may also be located in the chamber 26. The valve seat 9 for the first closure member may be plane and perpendicular to the valve axis or may be of frusto-conical form engaging with a corresponding frusto-conical surface on the first closure member.
