Abstract
1,060,169. Valves. GRINNELL CORPORATION. Oct. 14, 1964 [Oct. 14, 1963], No. 41868/64. Heading F2V. [Also in Division G3] A diaphragm valve comprises a diaphragm 36 which co-operates with a seat 32. The diaphragm is actuated by two compressors 94, 72 having a lost motion connection whereby the valve is closed in two stages. The compressor 72 is secured to the diaphragm and to a stem 68 while the compressor 94 is loaded by springs 96 between the compressor and a nut 98 in the stem. Movement of the stem towards the valve closed position first causes the compressor 94 to move the outer part of the diaphragm on to its seat, as shown, while still permitting flow through the central portion. On further movement of the stem, the compressor 72 then completes closure of the valve. Opening of the valve occurs in the reverse manner. The spring 96 may be replaced by coil springs. The stem may be moved manually or by a fluid pressure actuator (see Division G3).
