615,612. Fluid-actuated valves. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. Sept. 18, 1941, No. 12002. Convention date, Feb. 13, 1940. [Class 135] A valve, e.g. for controlling the flow of compressed air from an inlet 1, Fig. 1, having a fixed plug 3, to an outlet 5, includes a diaphragm 6 having a port 7 controlled by a relief valve 9. As shown, air flows through the port 7 to the space above the diaphragm until the pressure therein reaches a predetermined value at which the diaphragm flexes and closes the mouth of the inlet 1. In this position, the edge of the diaphragm around the port 7 curls upwards to permit a slight leakage of air through the port to hold the diaphragm in its flexed position. In a modification, the plug 3, Fig. 3, is mounted on the stem of the valve 9. A spring-loaded diaphragm may be substituted for the diaphragm. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an arrangement in which communication between the space above the diaphragm and the inlet is effected through a port formed between an edge portion of the diaphragm and an internal adjacent wall of the space beneath the diaphragm. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
