Abstract
590,043. Pressure - regulating valves. JEAVONS & CO., Ltd., E. E., and JEAVONS, M. W. April. 10, 1945, No. 8918. [Class 135] In a gas governor in which the outlet pressure is regulated by a valve controlling the admission of gas to a chamber containing a diaphragm, a separate connecting unit with inlet and outlet connections is mounted on a faced part of the governor body and is interchangeable with another connecting unit in which the gas flow passages are reversely arranged so that the governor can readily be converted from a downward to an upward gas supply flow and vice versa. As shown, the governor body 1 has a diaphragm chamber 2 and a valve chamber 3 separated by a partition 4 having an aperture 10 controlled by a valve 9 carried by the diaphragm 12. The diaphragm is clamped peripherally by a cover 13 having a vent 14 covered by a dust-excluding cap 16. The valve chamber 3 is closed by a plug 7 having a central stop 8. The separate connecting unit 19, Fig. 6, which is adapted for a downward gas flow has screw-threaded and aligned gas inlet and outlet connections 20 which open into flow passages 21, Fig. 6, separated by an inclined wall 22, the central part of which is enlarged to provide a throughbore 23 for a bolt 18 by which the unit is clamped to the body 1. The bolt 18 is received in a tapped bore 17 between two passages communicating with the chambers 2, 3 respectively and opening opposite the flow passages 21. In the interchangeable connection unit 8, Fig. 7, which is for an upward gas flow, the dividing wall 22 is oppositely inclined.
