Abstract
947,531. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems. W. JORDAN. Oct. 24, 1961 [Nov. 8, 1960], No. 38008/61. Heading G3P. [Also in Division F2] A safety valve having its outlet 3 connected to a container to be filled, has its movable spring- loaded closure-member 7 unseated upon manually turning a cam 10, the member 7 being held open by an adjustable spring-urged catch 11. Should the pressure in the container and hence the outlet 3 rise above a given level, a float valve 35 is lifted from its seat 31 and fluid in the outlet passes into an insert 30; since the valve 35 is connected by a rod 36 to an upper valve 34 the latter is faced on to its seat 33 so sealing off the upper end of an oval pipe 25 from atmosphere; the pipe 25 opens into the insert 30. As the fluid level rises in the insert 30 and pipe 25 the air above the fluid is compressed until its pressure is sufficient to actuate a diaphragm 19 and release the catch 11 whereby the member 7 closes; the pipe 25 is connected to the diaphragm chamber by a tube 23 and a channel 21. The catch 11 may be released manually by a pin 37. A lever is provided for manually unseating the valve 35 to permit any fluid in the insert and pipe to drain away. The pipe 25 embodies a number of inspection windows, a flame filter 27 and a flap 28.
