Also in Divisions F2 and F4] In a trap for discharging liquid from compressed gas lines, the liquid collects in a chamber C and on reaching a predetermined level raises a float 3 to unseat a pilot valve 4 thereby allowing the gas to pass via passage F to act on a piston 8 to cause the latter to unseat a ball valve 10 to vent a chamber J above a main valve member 15 via passage P. When chamber J is vented, the liquid, assisted by gas pressure on its free surface, unseats member 15 and is discharged via passages L, M, N. As the liquid level falls, the float reseats the pilot valve and the gas above piston 8 leaks to atmosphere via restriction G, thereby allowing spring 12 to raise the piston and reseat valve 10. Liquid continues to be discharged until none remains in chamber C, at which point gas flowing to the outlet L also passes via annular passage Q to develop a static pressure above member 15 which exceeds the dynamic pressure on the lower side thereof and thereby seats the member. In Fig. 2 (not shown), valve 10 is omitted and the stem (S) of piston (8) unseats the main valve against the action of a spring (25).
