Abstract

917,619. Valves. RANCO Inc. Jan. 16, 1961 [Feb. 12, 1960], No. 1712/61. Class 135. A flow-control valve comprises a valve chamber 16, Fig. 2, having an inlet 12 in its side wall and an outlet 13 in its bottom wall, the outlet being opened and closed by a reciprocating plunger 25. The sleeve 34, preferably of brass, is provided surrounding the plunger and terminating short of the bottom wall so that the sleeve does not interrupt free flow between the inlet and outlet. When the valve is open the plunger 25 is substantially within the sleeve so that it is protected from the jet of incoming fluid. As shown, the valve is actuated by a solenoid 22. In a modification, Fig. 3, the stem of the plunger 125 is of reduced diameter relative to the lower closure portion and the valve has two outlets 113, 60. When the plunger is raised to the dotted line position, the lower end of the plunger substantially closes the sleeve 134a, so that the majority of flow is from the inlet 112 to the outlet 113.
