Abstract

900,723. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems ; valves. TOKHEIM (INTERNATIONAL) A.G. Jan. 8, 1959 [Jan. 9, 1958], No. 775/59. Class 135. In a dispensing nozzle fluid passes from the inlet 19 and chamber 17 via a restriction to the upper chamber 125 of a diaphragm 39 carrying a main valve 51, 27 whereby pressure at 125 causes the valve to close the outlet 233 from the inlet. Raising hand lever 297 lifts auxiliary valve 107 seating on a diaphragm opening 45 whereby fluid at 125 is released to the outlet via a passage between a main valve bore and hollow auxiliary valve stem 99, through the stem via ports 98, past a normally open valve 155 and through a Venturi 185 in which the suction at 205 entrains air through a chamber 127 from a pipe having an atmospheric opening adjacent the nozzle outlet spout. The main valve opens and follows up the movement of the auxiliary valve 107 and handle 297. The handle may be held in its valve-open position by a part 303 engaging notches 293 or 295 in a spring pawl 287. If the spout is removed from a tank opening or is fractured at a weakened point, a lever hinged on the spout depresses a lever 273 at 270 and releases the pawl from the handle to close the main and auxiliary valves. At a predetermined level the fluid in the tank covers the atmospheric pipe outlet so that suction at 205 acts via passage 147 on diaphragm 169 to close valve 155 whereby the pressure differential across diaphragm 39 closes the main valve. The handle may be depressed to such a limited extent that the throttled opening of auxiliary valve 107 keeps the main valve closed but allows a small flow to the outlet through the Venturi, this flow being stopped when the liquid level closes the atmospheric opening and suction of diaphragm 169 closes valve 155.
