Abstract

687,301. Fluid-actuated valves. OPW CORPORATION. Aug. 4, 1950 [March 8, 1950], No. 19604/50. Class 135. A liquid-dispensing nozzle comprises a closure member 5 controlling flow from an inlet 12 to an outlet 6 and held in the open position by a hand lever 7 against a spring 16, the lever pivot 24 being carried by a movable plunger 25. The plunger is locked in the position shown by balls 31 held in engagement with a fixed shoulder 33 by a pin 34 carried by a spring-loaded diaphragm 9. The chamber 37' above the diaphragm is connected by a pipe 38 to an opening 40 adjacent the outlet, and by a bore 41 to a throat 43 beneath the valve seat 13, whereby liquid flowing through the seat to the outlet draws air through the opening 40, pipe 38, chamber 37<SP>1</SP> and bore 41. When the opening is submerged in dispensed liquid, chamber 37<SP>1</SP> becomes evacuated causing the diaphragm to move against its loading spring to release the balls, thereby permitting the spring 16 to move the plunger downwards and the closure member to its seat. When the lever 7 is released, a spring 28 returns the plunger to the locking position.
