Abstract
1,019,715. Valves. A.B. KALLE REGULATORER. Oct. 17, 1962 [Dec. 20, 1961], No. 39313/62. Heading F2V. Communication between an inlet chamber 7 for high-pressure fluid e.g. steam, and a surrounding annular outlet chamber 8 is controlled by a pair of movable closure members 14, 15 on a spindle 13 arranged in chambers 8 and 7 respectively; the spindle also carries a disc 16. The valves are loaded to the closed position by a spring 28 acting through a central lever 27. A channel 32 through the spindle 13 is open at the top and bottom via radial ports 33 and 34, whilst the lower end of the spindle is formed as a needle valve 37 controlling an opening 35 at the end of a water conduit 36. When the valves 14, 15 are slightly open i.e. in a throttling position, the steam impinges on the disc 16 to balance the force of the steam acting on closure member 14; concomitantly an area of negative pressure forms below the disc 16 whereby the water supplied through the ports 34 is distributed in the steam. Upon adjusting the valves to increase the throttling effect the negative pressure below the disc 16 is then sufficient to draw steam from chamber 8 through ports 33 and channel 32 and discharge it from ports 34 whereupon the water is even more finely dispersed in the steam. When the valves 14, 15 are more fully opened the negative pressure below the disc 16 is reduced but the needle valve 37 is retracted to a greater extent and so permits the passage of larger quantities of water.
