Abstract
524,041. Fluid-actuated valves. WASHBROOK, W. E. Jan. 20, 1939, No. 2010. [Class 135] A fluid conduit is opened or closed consequent on changes of pressure or flow in a second conduit by means of a valve f which floats vertically inside a hollow member a and has two heads d, e co-acting with oppositely disposed seatings b, c. Normally, fluid such as cold water entering at g and leaving at h holds up the valve and allows flow of a second fluid such as hot water through i, j; on interruption of the flow of cold water, the valve drops and stops the flow of hot water. A cavity l in the head e may be loaded with lead or mercury to vary the sensitivity of the valve. Where the pressures in the two conduits closely approximate, a piston may be attached to the valve so as to work in a closed space above the head d whereby the flow of hot water helps to raise the valve.
