Abstract
450,190. Valves. HOPKINSONS, Ltd., and BROWN, R. L., Britannia Works, Wheathouse Road, Huddersfield. April 11, 1935, No. 11213. Class 135] A steam or like valve i is operated alternatively by a hand wheel d<1> acting, through a pinion c, on a rack b on the valve stem a, or by a power piston f on the end of the stem working in a single or double acting cylinder g. In the form shown, the stem is in two parts, the part a<1> carrying the piston passing through a stuffing - box h, a stuffing-box being also applied to the pinion shaft d. A stop p on the pinion shaft d coacting with a fixed stop q prevents strain on the rack by hand wheel thrust after closing of the valve. With the valve fully opened, a collar j seats at k to isolate the operating means from the pressure fluid of the valve. The pressure fluid actuating the piston may be admitted to the cylinder through a restricted orifice o to control the speed of movement of the valve.
