[Class 110 (iii)] [See also Group XXIX] A governor valve 12 of the single-beat lift type for an elastic-fluid turbine controls the passage of steam from the main 15 to a branch pipe 17, the valve opening with and closing against the direction of flow of the fluid. The valve is provided with a balancing piston which is supplied with pressure fluid from the underside of the valve through passages 23 so that the valve is completely balanced, and is free from any tendency to " kick," a comparatively small force being required for actuation by a rod 22. A series of valves 12, 13 and 14 may be actuated in sequence together with a main throttle valve 11 by means of lost motion on the rods 22, which are all coupled for actuation by a servo-motor 20.
