474,253. Safety valves. AULD & SONS, Ltd., D., and GRAHAM, J. May 18, 1936, No. 14005. [Class 135] In a safety valve of the type in which the lift of the main valve 19 can be increased by steam admitted to a piston 26, loose on the main valve spindle 18, by an auxiliary valve 33 which lifts at a predetermined pressure, which may be the same as for the main valve or slightly higher, the casing 20 which encloses the spring 21 acting on the main valve 19 is closed at its lower end, except where the spindle 18 passes through, and is supported by a flanged extension 27 provided with ports 29 to allow steam which escapes past the piston 26 to escape to the atmosphere. The piston 26 is provided with a guide sleeve 25 which acts against the lower spring-carrier 23 to relieve the pressure of the spring 21 and enable the valve 19 to open further.
