Abstract
313,120. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. June 7, 1928, [Convention date]. Fluid governors. - In supplying steam to an auxiliary engine driving a blower for are-cooling plant, a regulating device is disposed in the supply pipe and is so influenced by the pressure of steam supplied to the main engine that variations in the power of the latter cause corresponding variations in the power of the blower engine. Steam from the mains a<1>, a<2> of a main turbine A of a condensing locomotive passes through throttling discs B and spring loaded check valves c<3>, c<4> to a collector C whence a pipe D feeds it to the underside of a hollow, piston F adapted to reciprocate in a valve chamber E. The piston is formed with a throttling aperture f<1> and with apertures f<2>, f<3> separated by continuous portion f<4>. Normally, gravity or a weak spring maintains the piston in its lowermost position with the part f<4> separating two chambers e<2>, e<3> connected respectively with a steam supply pipe G and a steam pipe H leading to the blower engine, but when steam from the mains a<1>, a<2> is admitted to the underside of the piston, the piston is raised, permitting the passage of steam from the pipe G to the pipe H the lifting continuing until the pressure exerted by the steam from the pipe G equalizes that from the pipe D. The piston then remains stationary unless the, pressure from the mains a<1>, a<2> varies when the lift of the piston adjusts itself accordingly. During temporary stoppage of the locomotive, steam may be supplied directly to the pipe D.
