[Class 123 (ii).] High-pressure boilers of " once through" type capable of raising 3 tons of steam per hour comprise at least one continuous tube 3a .. 3/ arranged partly in the combustion chamber and partly in the flues with a length at least 300 metres and 10000 times the mean internal diameter, the inlet pressure exceeding that at the outlet 4 by at least 20 atmospheres without any sudden pressure drops occurring within the tube, and a flow vibration damper 8 arranged between the evaporating zone and the point of steam consumption to increase or decrease the steam outlet area in accordance with increase or decrease of pressure within the tube on the inlet side of the damper. In the form shown the damper comprises a system of fluid-pressure operated pistons 21, 30, and a pair of steam valves 33, 34, valve 34 only being raised when increase of steam pressure continues after valve 33 is fully open. Working medium at 100‹ C. and 150 atmospheres pressure enters the inlet 2 of the tube which has an internal diameter of 36 mm. for 900 metres and of 48 mm. for the further 400 metres of its length. Several tubes may be connected in parallel, or temporarily in series, and supplied by one or several feed pumps, one or several flow vibration dampers being provided. Drums, steam separators, throttling points or other parts preventing gradual decline of pressure throughout the tube are avoided. Specification 383,207 is referred to.
