Overheating of superheating-tubes, preventing. -When the boiler regulator-valve is closed, an auxiliary supply ef steam is admitted to the superheater and the cylinder steam-chest through a differential-piston valve B, which, when the pressure in the superheater reaches a predetermined point, which is considerably below the working pressure of the engine, closes the port G of the auxiliary-supply pipe and opens an escape passage J. When the regulator is open, the steam from the superheater, admitted through the port H, acts upon the large end of the piston valve and closes the port G, and at the same time, the check valve J<1> is pressed upon its seat and closes the escape passage J. The doubleseated screw-down valve C controls the inlet F for the auxiliary steam, and the supply through the pipe M to the blower. In oil-fired engines, the steam escaping through the passage J may be used to heat the oil and to work the oil burners.
