Abstract

Fluid - actuated valves. - Automaticallyoperated fluid-pressure valves, such as safety, reducing, or regulating valves, comprise a main valve adapted to be operated by fluid pressure operating against a load, or vice versa, and a supplementary valve-like actuator arranged on the fluid-pressure side of the main valve and whose relation to the load is adjustable independently of the load and of the fluid pressure. In the arrangement shown the main valve e is loaded by a helical spring or a spring acting through levers and toggle links, and is opened initially by boiler pressure in the passage d acting directly on the valve. The consequent drop of pressure below the valve e, assisted preferably by the hollow cone s below the valve e, unbalances the actuator-disc f, which then takes up the load and gives a high and quick lift. The relative areas of the disc f and valve e may be arranged to obtain a re-seating of the valve e with a small drop of pressure below the disc f. The axial distance between the valve e and actuator-disc can be adjusted by the coaxial spindle g, as shown. The above arrangement may be used as an auxiliary valve to control the opening and closing of a piston-actuated main valve.
