Abstract

521,103. Hydraulic stop valves. TAYLOR, A. W., TAYLOR, A. H., and SADLER, P.V., [trading as TAYLOR & CO., A. W.]. Nov. 8, 1938, No. 32323. [Class 135] An hydraulic stop valve is balanced for flow in either direction and has the valve member loosely secured between a collar on the actuating spindle and a nut screwed thereon so that relative movement is permissible when the valve member engages its seat and so prevent scoring. In the form shown the valve member D co-operates with a removable seat C and is slidably mounted in a sleeve formed on the underside of a stuffing box K. Leakage past the valve member is prevented by cup-leathers J held in place by a cover pla'te D' and distance piece Q. The valve member is loosely held by a nut G against a collar F on the valve spindle, which collar is chamfered at f to co-operate with a similar surface on the bottom of the stuffing box to provide an additional leakage preventing device. The chamber above the valve member is connected to the space below by passage-ways L in the valve spindle so that the member is always in a state of hydraulic balance.
