[Class 135.] Lift valves.-A self-closing water tap comprises a cone lift member e which seats by water pressure and is carried by a spindle c extending outside the casing through a close-fit bore where is carries a pressure element n of polygonal cross section on the inclined outer face o of which the cam lever q, r acts in opening the valve. An interposed packing v makes a tight joint at the spindle when the valve is fully opened. The valve cone e is adjustably secured on the screwed part of the spindle between nuts f, h, i. The pivot p of the lever cam q, r may be fitted with a brake disc pressed against the cheeks u by an enclosed spring to retain the lever in its set-open position ; for the same purpose the point of contact between the face o and the cam surface may be disposed below the axis of the cam lever q, r.
