Abstract

303,083. Duke, J. F., and Jones, W. R. Sept. 23, 1927. Lift valves; closure members, elastic.- In a water &c. tap, the closure member comprises a solid bulbous plug 6 of rubber or like resilient material having an annular flange 13 at its upper end, the intermediate part being of reduced diameter. The plug is vulcanized on to an operating spindle comprising a square stem 7 with a disc like flange 12 at its lower end. The plug flange 13 is secured between the wall of the casing 1 and a cap or bonnet 10, the latter being formed with a diaphragm 14 having a square hole for the spindle. The operating means may comprise a screwed extension 8 of the spindle engaging an internally threaded extension 9 of the handle 15 held by pins 11 engaging an annular groove, or the spindle may be connected to a lever or cam resting on top of the cap 10, the valve in this form being self-closing owing to the elasticity of the plug.
