499,150. Valves. TATE, F. R. (Marchant Valve Corporation) Aug. 10, 1937, No. 22027. [Class 135] The handle 19 of the compressible valve 9 of a faucet is movable in two directions for opening the valve. When pressed slightly downwards, the handle fulcrums about the edge 18a of the cap and lifts the lower end of the valve by the stem 21 ; on release the valve automatically closes. On the other hand, if the handle is turned upwards to vertical or any intermediate position, the valve is wholly or partially opened and retained open by the friction between the eccentric end 56 of the handle and the groove 54. The stem is guided by a polygonal portion 46 and is in two parts screw-connected for adjustment. The plug is hollow with an internal spring 39, and is tapered downwards, the surrounding chamber 4 being tapered upwards.
