Abstract

511,568. Loose ball valves. VICARS, Ltd., T. & T., and CROSLAND, E. M. Jan. 11, 1939, No. 878. [Class 135] In a fluid control valve comprising a loose ball 12 held on its seat 11 by a spring-pressed plunger 13 and adapted to be lifted from its seat by a second plunger 16 actuated by a cam'lever 19, the valve casing 1 has. shoulders 2, 3 which are clamped against shoulders on a frame member 6 by a wing nut 5 threaded on a screwed boss 4 on the valve casing. Packing washers 7, 8 of granulated cork or the like are interposed between the shoulders. The plunger 16 slides through a gland 18 and is pressed against the cam lever by a spring 17. The cam surface 20 is such that the valve is not opened when the lever is in the position 19a in which the nut 5 can be unscrewed and the valve casing 1 withdrawn from the member 6. The plunger 13 is guided in a removable screw plug 15.
