532,848. Valves. BLAKEBOROUGH, R. A., and KLOUMAN, F. A. Sept. 22, 1939, No. 26388. [Class 135] A mechanically-operated plunger valve of the stream-line type has the stem f of a pilot valve f controlling an orifice a<SP>2</SP> in the plunger nose formed with two threaded portions f<SP>2</SP>, f4 of different pitch and of opposite hand. The portion f<SP>4</SP> of quicker pitch works in a nut i operable from the exterior of the casing by bevel gear j, j<SP>1</SP>. The portion f<SP>2</SP> of slower pitch works in a threaded opening in a boss a<SP>3</SP> secured to the plunger by webs a<SP>4</SP>. A helical spring g is interposed between a collar f<SP>3</SP> on the pilot valve stem and the interior surface of the plunger nose. When opening the valve the pilot valve is first opened by the slower pitched screw to relieve the pressure acting on the back of the plunger, and to bring the collar f<SP>3</SP> into engagement with the boss a<SP>3</SP>. Thereafter the quick-pitched screw comes into action to open the main valve.
