Abstract

560,418. Valves. DAVIES, H. Dec. 1, 1942, No. 17108. [Class 135] A screw-down valve for controlling the flow of gas under pressure comprises an outer barrel a with external threads for engaging a container d and a tubular valve member e with a fine external thread engaging a thread in the barrel a. The lower end of the barrel is closed by a screwed plug g the upper face of which provides a seat adapted to close the bore o through the valve member when the valve is closed. Flow of gas is regulated by screwing the member a outwards by means of flats on a collar q to uncover, more or less, a tapered port or ports k in the outer barrel. The plug g may be faced with rubber or plastic sealing material or be formed with a conical seating to engage a corresponding surface on the end of the valve member.
