170,649. Colpoys, A. B. Griffiths-, and Snell, J. S. July 22, 1020. Closure members. - A screw - down valve is provided with a supplementary valve which may be closed when the main valve is removed for repair. The valve body contains a chamber k closed by a screwed plug into which a supplementary valve m is fitted. The valve m has a square recess into which fits a square spindle n attached to the main valve g. When the main valve spindle f is unscrewed, the valve m is rotated and moves towards its seat, but not sufficiently to obstruct the flow. When the spindle f is unscrewed to its fullest extent, the valve m closes the passage and the screwed portion of the spindle is withdrawn into the space h. The valve cover may then be unscrewed without rotating the valve, and the main valve may then be removed.
