Abstract

277,504. Connell, J. G. Oct. 1, 1926. Lift valves.-A manually-actuated self-closing lift valve operating as a waste - preventing tap comprises a helicallyslotted member 5 and a projection 2 on the valve stem 1 engaging therein, in conjunction with a torsion spring 9 for closing the valve automatically as soon as the operating handle 17 is released. In the arrangement shown, the helically-slotted member 5 is rotated by the handle 17 to open the valve, but this member may be stationary and the stem or spindle 1 of the valve rotated. One end of the torsion spring 9 is anchored at 13 to the handle, and the other end to a screw cap 7 which screws down upon the packing 18.
