Abstract

Sliding valves; actuating valves; repairing valves. -A sliding valve 24 of the gate type is operated by a screw 25, Fig. 4, engaging a hollow screwed spindle attached to the valve, or by means of a rack and pinion, the valve 24 being adapted to pass through a slot in the main and to seat itself tightly against the bottom of the main and the sides of the slot. To enable the valve and casing 29 to be easily removed for repairs &c., a box 8 with a removable sliding damper 9 is provided, the damper preventing the escape of fluid from the main during this operation.
