COMPRESSION STOP AND "WASTE COCK.
eeann Application filed May 8, 1813, Serial No. 766,451.
To aZZ whom it may concern: I
Be it known that LHARRY J. Gnnnnur, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cleveland, in the countyof Guyahoga and State of Ghio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compression Stop and Vllaste Cocks; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the inventiomsu'ch' as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in compression stop and waste cocks.
One object of this invention is to provide a stop and waste cock of the character indicated having such an arrangement of parts that the water supply will be shut ofi before the waste vent is opened.
A further object of this invention is to provide a cock of the character indicated which will be exceedingly simple in construction, positive in operation and durable in service.
My invention, therefore, consists in certain novel details of construction and combination and arrangement of parts, which will be described in the specification, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a central vertical section of a cock embodying my invention showing the main valve open and the waste vent closed.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the main valve closed and the waste vent open.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3, Fig. 2.
Again referring to the drawings 10 represents the main body of the valve which is similar to the body of an ordinary globe valve, and is provided with the usual dividing wall 11 which separates the inlet opening of the valve casing from the outlet opening. This dividing wall 11 is provided with the usual centrally arranged opening 12 around which, on the upper surface of the dividing wall, is formed a valve seat 12. A neck portion 13 is arranged to screw into the main body 10 in the usual manner and this neck portion 13 is provided with a screw-threaded bore 14 in line with the opening 12. A valve stem 15 which has a screw-thread 16 which corresponds to the screw-thread 14: of the neck 13 extends through the neck portion and at its lower Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented (lot. 30, 191?. Renewed September 21, 1917. Serial No. 192,624.
end saidvalve stem is provided with a valve 17 adapted to seat on the :valve seat12. The valve 17 is provided with a beveled edge, shown at 17. A washer 18 of fiber or similar material issecured'on the face of the valve 17 by means of a screw 19. It will be readily understood that when the valve stem is turned up or down the valve will be caused to move away from or approach the valve seat 12. A packing gland 21 which carries suitable packing 22 is arranged at the upper end of the neck 13 in the usual manner. In the side of the body of the valve above the partition wall 11 is formed a small opening 25 and on the outer face of said body around said opening is formed an annular flange 26 having an interior screw-thread. A nut 27 is arranged to screw into the said flange 26 and the said nut is provided with a vent opening 28. On the inner end of the nut around said vent opening 28 is formed a beveled valve seat 29. A disk valve 31 which I term the vent valve is arranged within the annular flange 26 and the said valve 31 is provided with a stem 32 which extends through the opening 25 and on the inner end of said stem 32 is arranged a head 33 which eX- tends under the beveled edge of the main valve 17.
The operation of the valve is as follows When the main valve is open, as shown in Fig. 1, the water from the supply pipe will pass through the inlet opening of the valve casing under the dividing wall 11, then through the opening 12 and out through the outlet opening of the valve casing to the service pipes of the house or building. The pressure of the water in the valve casing will hold the vent valve 31 on the seat 29 of the nut 27 so that no water will escape through the vent. Now when the main valve is closed, as shown in Fig. 2, the water from edge of the valve 17 does not come in contact with the head 33 on the vent valve stem until the said valve 17 is practically seated and all communication cut oii through the opening 12.
What I claim is A. compression stop and Waste cock comprising a valve casing having an apertured partition wall dividing the inlet side from the outlet side, the wall of said valve casing at the outlet side of the partition wall being extended to form an annular flange, a nut arranged to close the outer end of said flange, said not being provided with a vent opening, a valve supported independently of said nut and arranged to close said vent naaaeve opening, a valve stem rigidly connected to said vent valve and extending loosely through the wall of the valve casing, a main valve arranged to close the aperture in the partition wall and adapted to engage with the vent valve stem during its closing movement and a main valve stem for operating said inain valve. 7 e
In testimony whereof, I sign the foregoing specification, in the presence of two witnesses.
HARRY J. GEURINK.
