Abstract

352,228. Plug cocks. HUHN, G., 23, Levetzowstrasse, Berlin. June 26, 1930, No. 19510. [Class 135.] In a rotary plug cock, means for axially easing and jamming the plug in its seating comprise a rotary annular member 16, 20, Fig. 1, screwed on the plug stem 21, 22, as shown, and operated by the handle 29. A pin or key 23 inserted through the stem projects into slots 24 in the annular member so that after the axial movement due to the screw arrangement the ends of the slot abut against the pin or key 23 and effect the rotation of the plug. The open and closed positions are located by the ends of the key striking the ends of arcuate slots 26 in the flange plate 25. A screw plug can be inserted at 19 for temporarily preventing or limiting the axial displacement. An internal spring may be inserted to act on the large end of the plug, or an external spring on the extended stem between the annular member and nuts on the stem, to increase the friction between the plug stem and annular member. In order to provide for easing or jamming the plug at any desired opening, the handle 55, Fig. 11, is pivotably mounted on the annular member and engaged, when desired, with the stem by means of a notch and tooth arrangement 51, 56. In a modification, the handle is slidably arranged and a tooth thereon engaged in a notch on the annular member by an enclosed spring.
