Abstract

546,113. Valves. STEVENS, A. H. (Reed Roller Bit Co.). June 5, 1940, No. 9874. [Class 135] A rotary sliding valve has a seat about the inlet or outlet opening and a closure member movable to and from a seated position against said seat and a protective part movable to protect said seat when the said closure member is moved away from the seat. In the form shown in the Figs 1 and 3, a square sectioned member 7 with a transverse passage 19 has a spigot bearing in the casing at the lower end and an actuating spindle at the upper end. Closure members 20 acted on by springs 23 and adapted to cooperate with seating surfaces about the inlet and outlet connections have lugs 24 at their upper and lower ends. These lugs have radial surfaces adapted to be engaged by corresponding surfaces on lugs on the member 7 when moving the valve to its closed position and inclined surfaces adapted to be engaged by corresponding surfaces on hookshaped lugs on the member 7 when moving the valve to its open position. The inclined surfaces first ease the closure members from their seats and afterwards turn them to the open position. As the valve turns to its open position members 21 acted on by springs 33 and provided with fluid passages 29 are moved by lugs 32 on the member 7 engaging lugs 30 on the members 21 into position to protect the valve seats.
