[Class 135] In a through-way rotary plug valve of the kind having a spherical valve member 5 cooperable with a pair of aligned seats 4, 4 and means associated with the plug or its operating handle 13 for limiting the rotary movement of the valve, one or both of the seats 4 is of resilient material such as rubber, and has an annular metal insert 4a. The seats are fitted into recesses at the inner ends of the inlet and outlet ports 2, 3 against upstanding ribs 17. The inserts 4a may be L-shaped or dovetailshaped in cross-section. A detachable stem 7, having a squared end 12 fitting in a square recess in the plug 5, passes through a cover 6 provided with a stuffing box 8. A conical surface 9 on the stem makes a fluid-tight seal with a corresponding surface on the cover 6. A handle 13 secured to the stem by a key or a set screw has a depending projection 15 movable between shoulders 16 on the valve casing which define the open and closed positions of the valve. The Provisional Specification describes a modification, in which a depending projection on the handle carries a spring-loaded ball which engages in recesses in a ring on the valve casing and also another form, in which a stop on the valve member engages one or more abutments in an annular recess in the valve casing. The stop may be on the valve casing and the annular recess and abutments in the closure member.
