Abstract

848,576. Valves. CRANG, T. F. Sept. 9, 1958 [Sept. 19, 1957], No. 29551/57. Class 135. A rotatable plugvalve is provided with two resilient gland sealing rings 23, 24 disposed in grooves in the plug 7 on opposite sides of aligned inlet and outlet ports 12, 13 of the valve body, and a third resilient sealing ring 26, which is located in a groove angled across the plug, seals the inlet from the outlet in the shut position of the valve as shown. The plug has two recesses 27, 28 on opposite sides of the third ring which constitute flow passages through the valve in the open position. The ports 12, 13 are chamfered laterally into the bore of the valve body to compensate for the presence of the third ring across these ports in the open position. A pin 20 co-operating with stops limits the rotation of the plug to 90 degrees.
