Abstract

983,685. Valves. CRANE Ltd. Sept. 27, 1963, No. 38205/63. Heading F2V, A rotatable spherical plug valve having a conical valve chamber 11 between the inlet 2 and outlet 3 of a casing 10, is provided with a closure member having upper and lower stem portions 16, 17, the inner end of the valve chamber terminating in a part-spherical surface 38 concentric with the closure member, a pair of resilient mating valve seats 9, 11 enclosing the closure member and parts of the upper and lower stem portions excepting for ports which register with the plug passage 10 in open position, the seats having abutting flat surfaces 12, 13 in a plane including the plug axis, a bonnet 18 closing the valve chamber, this bonnet being located between an abutment 22 carried by the upper stem portion and top end surfaces of the seats, the lower stem portion projecting through the opposite end of the casing, and a threaded member 28 to pull the closure member and bonnet into the chamber and compress the seats to effect sealing. The lower ends of the seats are shaped to fit the part spherical surface 38. Additional O-ring seals 35, 36, 37 are provided. Projections 39 on the seats engage recesses 41 in the casing to prevent rotation. A stop member 29 on the lower stem co-operates with a fixed stop 33. In a modification, a cross-pin in the upper stem forms a stop which is visible through arcuate slots in a cover-plate. Specification 933,080 is referred to.
