Abstract

1,162,996. Valves. B.R.R. Ltd. 30 Jan., 1968 [8 Nov., 1966], No. 49990/66. Heading F2V. In the flow control valve shown, the presence or absence of fluid from the inlet 11 to the outlet 12 is determined by the relative disposition of a tubular seat member 14 and a conical, hard grade rubber closure member 20, the closure member being firmly held within the valve casing by means of a spider construction 19. Movement of the seat member 14 is achieved by the application of a control pressure to either one of two ports 23, 24, such applied pressure acting on a piston 15, formed integrally with the seat member, and hence effecting the desired movement of the seat member itself. Sealing rings 16, 17 and 18 ensure the absence of metal-to-metal contact between the seat member and various parts of the valve casing. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the valve is formed with a fixed seat (33) which is inclined with respect to aligned inlet and outlet openings (31, 32) respectively, and is adapted to be engaged by a tubular closure member (45) of similar construction to the seat member 14 disclosed above, the closure member being movable within a casing (36) whose axis corresponds to that of the seat aperture and which, together with the closure member, is constructed to permit fluid pressure actuation of the closure member in the manner above described. In a further modification, not shown, the valve casing is constructed by a cylinder having closed ends and radial or chordal ports, one at each end, a fluid actuable tubular member, of the above described type, being movable within the casing between a first position in which one end of the member abuts a sealing ring in one of the casing ends so preventing fluid flow through the valve, and a second position in which the other end abuts a stop spaced from the other casing end, in which position flow through the valve is permitted.
