Abstract

1305554 Valves SERCK INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 March 1970 [11 April 1969] 18742/69 Heading F2V A seat assembly for a butterfly valve, comprises an annular resilient seating ring 11 which is secured within a generally L-shaped recess in a metallic mounting ring 10, the sealing ring 11 having an axially orientated groove 11b, a plurality of ribs 11c and a radially inwardly extending projection 11a, whilst the mounting ring has formed therein a plurality of holes 12 through which screws 13 extend with clearance, such clearance between each hole 12 and its associated screw facilitating proper alignment of the assembly. In use (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown), ribs 11c engage the valve body to effect a seal therebetween. Upon moving the valve member (15) to its closed position, recess 11b is substantially closed and projection 11a is deflected radially outwardly. The presence of annular recesses defined between each axial end face of the ring on the one hand and the valve body (14) and mounting ring on the other hand aids in enhancing, by the action of fluid pressure, the sealing effect of ring 11. The axis of rotation of the valve member is off-set both from the plane of the valve disc and from the axis of the valve flow passage.
