Abstract

356,373. Stop valves. BAINES & CO., Ltd., W. N. and REID, J. G., Phoenix Brass Works, Rotherham. July 9, 1930, No. 20740. [Class 135.] lift valves; seats.-In a stop valve of the piston plug lift type the packing 17 is compressed on the casing diaphragm 8 by a perforated cylinder or cage 12 which is carried by and. disposed partly within a tubular fitting 14 screwed to the valve body, as shown. The packing 17 is carried in a recess, as shown, and the cylinder 12 is formed with a part 18 of polygonal cross section to prevent its rotation with the screwed spindle 23 which is formed with a quick-acting thread. The valve can be locked in its closed position by means of a depending pin 31 engaging an extension 29 of a nut 28 on the tubular fitting 14 ; the pitch of the latter thread is less than that of the spindle 23 and the position of the nut 28 is adjusted so that it locks against a shoulder, as shown, when the valve reaches its closed position.
