Wedging or jamming.-In rotary plug cocks having screw means for frictionally raising the plug in its seating for easy turning on opening, and for forcing it tightly into its seating on closing, the plug element itself is formed with a screw thread a<1>, Fig 1, or A<1>, Fig. 2, and engages directly in an upper gland element b or a base sleeve element C'. In both cases the rotation of the plug is limited to a quarter turn by a stop pin and shoulders, as shown. Lubrication of the working faces and the screw threads is provided for by means of a screw plunger C<4>, Fig. 2, a grease cavity C', and ducts C<6>, C<7>.
