Abstract

637,259. Lubricating valves. ROCKWELL MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 8, 1947, No. 22089. Convention date, Sept. 15, 1938. [Class 135] A lubricated plug valve comprises four longitudinal grooves 22, 23, 31, 32 in the plug 13, the grooves 22, 23 being connected through a bore 21 to a reservoir in the stem 16, which has a lubricant compressing screw 19, and to a chamber 24 to which lubricant is supplied to raise the plug off its seat. The grooves 31, 32 end short of both ends of the plug and are supplied with lubricant through circumferential grooves 25, 26, in the plug and seat respectively, and four short longitudinal grooves 29a in the seat, when the valve is either fully open or fully closed. In a modification for large valves, the lower ends of the plug and seat are provided with circumferential grooves.
