Abstract
436,715. Cylindrical plug valves. CLADE, R., 5718, Russell Street, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. March 10, 1934, No. 7715. [Class 135] [See also Group XXXIV] A shoulder 13 on a cylindrical valve plug 11 is pressed against a head 15 on the valve body 1 by a spring 39, so as to form an annular lubricant chamber 49. The plug 11 has longitudinal grooves 67, 69, both connected to tho chamber 49 by restricted grooves 71, the groove 69 extending to, but the groove 67 stopping short of, a chamber 45 at the lower end of the valve. Four recesses 73, 79, spaced at 90‹, are formed in the valve body, and in certain positions of the plug two of these recesses provide free communication between the chamber 49 and the grooves 67, 69. A chamber 63, in the plug extension S, provided with a screwed plunger 65 and non-return valve 57, supplies lubricant through ports 53, 51 in the plug 11 to the chamber 49 from whence it passes to the grooves 67, 69, and chamber 45. When the grooves and chambers are fully supplied the oil pressure set up causes slight yielding of the spring 39 and a small amount of lubricant leaks from a space 17 around the valve spindle to indicate the completion of the lubricating process. The plug 11 has, above and below the port opening 23, inserts 27, 29, which can be adjusted by screwed rods 31, to prevent leakage of the fluid controlled by the valve.
