Abstract

Plug cocks; wedging or jamming; leakage, preventing. - A taper plug cock adapted to lift and lower as it turns has the whole of the bearing surface of the plug 2, Figs. 1 and 3, or casing 1, provided with soft compressible material 3, and the upper end of the casing is closed by an adjustable screwed cover 5. the adjustment being secured preferably by a hinged screw bolt 8. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the lifting action is obtained by a central upper screwed spindle 6 engaging a central screwed hole in the cover; the surfacing material 3 is compressed by a ring 10 and washer 11, and the upper and lower ends of the plug are packed by U-shaped packing rings 14. 15. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, a screwed central aperture in the lower end nf the plug engages a screwed pin 17 upstanding from the closed bottom 16 of the casing, the surfacing material 3 being compressed by a plate 18, and only one U-shaped packing ring 14 being provided at the upper end of the plug.
