Abstract
287,368. Power - Gas Corporation, Ltd., Rambush, N. E., and Harper, C. S. D. June 28, 1927. W e d g i n g or jamming. - In doublefaced gate or sluice valves, directly coacting helical surfaces on the backs of the valve discs are located peripherally, substantially in line with the valve seatings. In the arrangement shown, the the valve apertures, which are preferably provided with renewable stainless steel seating rings, are formed in a two-part body or casing a having a cap b with inspection doors c and an extension d with stuffing box &c. e. The valve discs g, provided with coacting helical ribs h substantially in line with the valve seatings, are formed with hubs g<1> loosely engaged by a yoke n, and are coupled to the actuating spindle k by inclined links m. Legs n<1> on the yoke engage the casing as the discs come into position, further movement of the spindle k causing relative rotation whereby the discs are forced against the seatings. A relief valve p, actuated by a tailpiece n<2> on the yoke n, is opened as the main valve is closed.
